    The Complete Gershwin Keyboard Works!

    January 7th, 2005 by Brian E. Young

Thanks to ShaneDew‘s generous gift of a Walmart gift card I bought this awesome book!! Ahh, I literally cried when I went through it. Gershwin’s work is copyrighted by Warner Bros. still so you can really only buy their version or approved versions so that makes his books more expensive than other books. This one is high quality though! The cover is a very hardy matte fiber with silver embossed lettering

I had already memorized the Three Preludes and I should be performing those this semester! The book also contains the additional posthumous preludes. This book has Rhapsody in Blue so I could learn the solo part. It also includes the orchestra part reduced for solo piano. I’ve heard that a lot of people would rather know this version and add the second piano part as necessary. That makes sense as you’d already be prepared to play the solo with the orchestra or can play along with the orchestra recording. What floored me was the Concerto in F! Ah that’s a cool piece. An American Paris, I Got Rhythm Variations, the 2nd Rhapsody and the Cuban Overture are also included! Tears of joy!

I also was mailed a series of jazz band music as I’ll be one of the pianists playing with the jazz band this year. I am going to be having a very jazzy semester!
