I’ve been watching HGTV Design Star which I caught in a marathon today. My favorite is David Bromstad not only for obvious reasons. I have the most in common with him, his aethetic, his background. He’s a trained artist afterall. I hope he wins for sure! I just love talent, passion and charisma. Qualities I try to I dunno, someday become.
Anyway I’m planning on talking about my favorite art books in upcoming entries so stay tuned. I always say I love practical books that teach me what I need to know and guide me. So I figure I’ll start posting my thoughts. First the ones I own and then to the library! Hopefully it’ll be helpful to someone maybe? If not it’ll be something I’ll have fun writing about
Ever notice the second paragraph of these things is usually an “anyway”
David is awesome. Though I wished our stud had just listened to Vern. What he needed on the bed of the glass house in the final competition was a small square turquoise pillow that would have been placed below the center pillow on the bed. That would have been it.
I admire David for many reasons but the main reason is each room he designed felt “comfortable” and that’s what life at home is all about – being comfortable in the space you’re in.
He uses minimal amounts of color when demanded by the design and more when required to make the statement at first glance.
I watched all the episodes in marathon and each time he came through with amazing clarity. He simply “gets it” when it comes to design, form and use of color and space.
I do, however, agree about the splash of color. Before Vern Yip even opened his mouth I was looking at the room and said it needs a really bright color in a very small splash. I just enjoyed his work. The others have talent but David just shines.
OK, all you would-be designers. At first look, I agreed – One spot of color was needed. Then I realized, almost everything in the room was LARGE in scale. To have a splash of color that would maintain the balance in the room, it, too, would have to be large. And that would throw the whole room off balance in its sense of color. David did it right. The color was beyond the glass walls. The calm was within. That’s why he’s getting his own TV design show, not me or you!
Or Vern and the judges for that matter?
David is a real cut abouve the rest……LOVE his new color splash show and his co host Danielle is a real winner also….love her wall treatments….He needs to find a great woman and get married, have kids and the whole God given American scene…..his kids would love their rooms, ‘done by dad.’
David you are simply the best thing going for HGTV. i LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!
Sorry Harriet (#5), I don’t think our boy David is going to be getting married anytime soon (unless, of course, he comes to Canada where the so-called Defense of Marriage Act doesn’t apply).
I would have gone with a scarlet pillow instead of turquoise – colour but still in the warm pallet.
David Bromstad is a genius. His ability to visualize room makeovers, his creativity, his over-the-top transformations make his show the best on HGTV. Of course, this is in addition to his physical beauty and his charisma that plays into the excitement of viewing Color Splash. Please, please keep him on the air. He is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I was a Trading Spaces nut til the show lost it’s edge. David Bromstad has made me love design again. He is fabulous. His chemistry with Daniel and Ian is so real, I also love the seamstress that he argues with. Thanks David for making design shows fun to watch again and for making design beautiful (and I’m not just talking about what you do to the spaces).
I’m from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In here most of the people decorate their home in a simplify style, because of the climate, I mean. Because of the hot weather we try to be minimalist.
But, since I saw David in action I change my mind. I want everything to be beautiful in my house, no matter the climate. His style is something new, refreshing, romantic, inspiring. I love him.
hgtv is back in my graaces thanks to david. i have watched 7 or 8 episodes. i was hooked after the first!!!. dvr for sure. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
Wish David and Danielle came on more often.. They are fabulous separate so just know together they are the best.. Wish they would come to my area.. I would love to be on the makeover list…… Debbie Mathews in Davidson NC
I am a 75year ” old lady”, originally from Germany, and I watch Colorsplash and David and Danielle every day.
I love all his unexpected ideas and how great and interesting the rooms look at the end every time.
And since I like to renovate my condo myself quite often, I love the tips Danielle gives about painting things.
Also, the way they are so joyful makes the show such fun to watch.
