Sketchbook
February 8th, 2007 by Brian E. Young
I’ve been playing around in my sketchbook. Having a really good time, just letting my mind go free, not being afraid. I think the headphonin and checkmate sketches were decent indications of what’s going in there now. Just scribbling patterns and graphic and typographic elements, mixing it with portraiture and landscapes. I think maybe most of my works have been somewhat traditional and trying to keep that timeless classic feel. It’s interesting trying to keep that classic sense and introduce the graphic arts. I’m a graphic designer, so I’m always going through the design mags and sites… It’s really all coming together in new ways. Iunno if it’ll stick or if it’s just an exploration I’m betting something from the scribbling will come back into some piece or another at some point. Anyway, back to scribbling

Just playing around with things in my sketchbook. This was a pretty quick one I sketched up tonight.
My scanner kind of is streaking for some reason. Just those horizontal lines that you can kind of see. I’ll probably have to rescan later if I can figure it out and its not just the scanner’s dying.>

I need to start doing something arty everyday I know. I’m probably going in the wrong direction since I know my weakness is coming up with ideas…
Oh well, here’s quick sketches of myspace friends

Also check out the newest featured blog in the sidebar, The Naked Eye.
And lastly, also check check out 22 Panels the Always Work. Haha I think I’ll make 22 paintings of the 22 different types of panels. That would be funny

Illustration Friday… My idea was just lots of layers of clothing. Having her with the hanging and kind of changing to show that the focus is the clothes? I dunno if it makes sense.

THe underpainting compared to last weeks is so underdeveloped compared to last weeks’. Now I’m running into problems that I should have worked out in the monochromatic. The shoulders and face are wide, the arms don’t feel right. The last couple paintings took only a few hours. It’s a lot easier to quickly fix those things in the monochromatic and now it might take extra time… Let’s see if it all works out
I am working on some non IF stuff but I’m keeping it on the hush hush until it’s done.
